About Us

The cities that form the CBC envision the collaboration as “Communities partnering to enable comprehensive low cost  broadband for residents, businesses, institutions, and visitors” in order to achieve the following objectives:

  • Promote job, business and economic growth throughout the CBC region
  • Provide a backup and contingency infrastructure for disaster response and recovery
  • Enhance education by improving teacher/student interaction and enabling distance learning
  • Improve efficiency of government services, including enhanced interoperable public safety communications
  • Improve the experience for visitors, tourists and business travelers across the CBC region

The Colorado Broadband Communities members originally anticipated accomplishing these goals through a competitive procurement process aimed at securing private partner(s) to fund, build, own and operate a region-wide network.  Since issuing and awarding an RFP for wireless services, the project was never funded.  The CBC board is now looking at opportunities as they arise with the Google, Fiber to Communities project and other ARRA grants.

Recognizing the benefit of a regional approach, the CBC cities are collaborating – extending the benefits of this initiative out to a greater region. The CBC is currently comprised of the following cities:

  • Arvada
  • Boulder
  • Broomfield
  • Golden
  • Lakewood
  • Louisville
  • Northglenn
  • Superior
  • Thornton
  • Wheat Ridge

With a present population of approximately 620,000, it represents nearly 15% of Colorado’s population. CBC is approximately 197 square miles, at the base of the Rocky Mountains and well situated for deployment of wireless technologies.
