Lakewood
Foundation/History:
Being founded in 1969, Lakewood has become a major Denver Metropolitan suburb, with the population being just over 144,000. Lakewood has grown up around 1950s housing stock and inherited many of its public facilities from special districts that pre-date the City’s incorporation. Rapid growth and development in the 1990s filled much of the City’s available land and has helped to create an increasingly diverse community, particularly along the border with Denver.
Demographics/Amenities:
Sitting along the eastern base of the Rocky Mountain foothills, Lakewood’s residents enjoy big city highlights with the feel of a small community. With over 98 parks, an indoor and outdoor performing arts venue, a museum, visual art galleries, two golf courses, four recreation centers, and miles of hiking and walking paths, Lakewood is a great place to be entertained. Besides the construction of a new award winning downtown district, Colorado’s 4th largest City, is taking steps toward embracing the future with a goal of also becoming a digital community.
Location:
Lakewood is just over 44 square miles and roughly bounded by state highway C-470 to the west, 26th Avenue to the north, Sheridan Boulevard to the east, and Hampden Avenue to the south. Lakewood borders with the cities of Denver, Littleton, Golden, Wheat Ridge, Morrison and Edgewater.
